How Custom Chillers Speed Up Blow Molding Cooling Cycle
Blow molding is a widely used manufacturing process for producing hollow plastic components, including bottles, containers, automotive ducts, and other items. This process includes three main types:
- Extrusion blow molding
- Injection blow molding
- Injection stretch blow molding

The blow molding process begins by melting down the plastic and forming it into a parison, a tube-like piece of plastic with a hole in one end. The parison is clamped into a mold, and compressed air is blown into it until the plastic fills the mold. Once the plastic has cooled and hardened, the mold opens up, and the part is ejected.
Industrial process chillers and custom control units, like Delta T Systems’, are used in blow molding applications to cool the process molds. Molds must be cooled quickly to maintain a high-quality product and to increase part production output.
Delta T Systems Designed a Custom TCU for a Client
Delta T Systems was contacted by a client in the blow molding industry to design a custom temperature control unit to cool the molds in their production equipment– essentially to act as an industrial process chiller. The primary goal: rapid and uniform mold cooling to maintain high-quality part output without extending cycle time.

Our Custom Chiller Solution:
Delta T Systems engineered a custom temperature control unit that delivered:
- 268 gallons per minute (GPM) of process water flow
- Consistent 37°F temperature in the mold
- Air-actuated modulating valve for precise thermal regulation
- Integration with a central chilling system
- Insulated piping using elastomeric closed-cell foam to prevent condensation and thermal losses
This setup ensured the mold temperature remained stable throughout the process, reducing the risk of product variation while enabling faster part ejection and shorter cycle times.
Key Benefits of Delta T Systems’ Blow Molding Chillers
- Faster Cooling Cycles = shorter dwell times for increased productivity.
- Tight Temperature Control = improved dimensional accuracy and product consistency.
- Cold Water Circulation = works in tandem with current chilling systems.
- Air-Actuated Modulation = precise temperature adjustment in real time.
- Insulated Components = prevent condensation and energy loss.
Whether you’re scaling up your production or solving a thermal bottleneck, our engineers can customize a solution to meet your specific mold cooling needs. Delta T Systems offers integrated chiller systems for standalone and system-level solutions to optimize your process.
